EDIBLE ROOFTOP

Taipei Songshan 2017

For the last 3 years, a little haven of life has been thriving on the top of a building. On this 20-meter square rooftop over 200 plants grow, perennials and annuals, edible and ornamental in a number of DIY raise bed planters mostly made of reused materials.

The plants are harvested daily for cooking and offered to friends and the community.
It has been a great location for experimenting with some of the difficulties of container gardening, which include drainage and water retention, people and building security, design and estheticism.
Like in all our projects, no chemicals were used to grow plants or control pests. Over the years, we have seen the insects of all kinds coming back and living in harmony with the plants.
